One of the many things I love about Michiganders is we are a hearty class of people. As the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” 🙂 AND on that note, let’s look at some of the Oakland County January 2019 Events.
Shiver by the River – This is a running series that takes place on multiple dates. The one in January is the 2nd in the series and will be held on January 13th, 2019. The race starts at 10 am with registration opening at 8:30 am. There is a 5k and a 10k and they take place on the same route. The 10k runners just do an extra loop. It begins at the Jim Dietrich Park, in Muhlenberg Twp, near the intersection of Stoudt’s Ferry Bridge Rd and Tuckerton Rd.
There will be awards for the top 4 male and top 4 female in each of the 5K and 10K. However, awards are given for the overall series, based on a cross-country type of scoring (the person finishing 15th will earn 15 points). Lowest scores in each age group will receive the awards.
Plymouth Ice Festival –Â The Plymouth Ice Festival is a world-class event which takes place in downtown Plymouth. It is exciting and fun for the whole family.
Friday, January 11th – 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm – Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting start at 7 PM.
Saturday, January 12th – 10:00 am to 10:00 pm
Sunday, January 13th – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Michigan 2019 Winter Dog Classic – Held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan on January 17th – 20th, 2019. With more than 7,000 dogs, 160+ breeds of “man’s best friends”, throughout the 4-day show, including several breeds getting ready for the country’s premier Westminster Kennel Club Dog show in February, the Michigan Winter Dog Classic is definitely Michigan’s LARGEST Dog Show AND so much fun for all dog lovers.
Rochester Fire & Ice Festival – This is held January 18th – 20th, 2019, as well! There’s a lot going on that weekend! This is Michigan’s premier winter festival. This annual family-friendly winter event is hosted by Oakland County, Oakland County Parks, Rochester DDA, and Rochester.
Ferndale Blues & Music Festival – Now we skip ahead to January 25th – February 2nd, 2019, and that’s when Ferndale hosts its annual Blues & Music Festival. There’s quite a lineup of talent. Check out the schedule here – 2019 Schedule
Winter Carnival 2019 – A FREE Winter festival held by Oakland Twp Parks and Recreation every January to showcase the winter family fun activities at Marsh View Park. Weather permitting this is scheduled for January 26, 2019.
So much to do this January!!!
