Rochester Hills has a city program where they offer FREE trees. That’s right. You read that correctly. The trees are free!!
They are planted by city contractors for residents who have a public right-of-way adjacent to their property. I guess there is a catch here, but it is still a program worth mentioning. The trees are guaranteed for 1 year.
They are approximately 8 to 10 feet tall with a 2-inch stem diameter. They have an inventory of about 250 trees which are available in both the Spring and the Fall. The Spring planting occurs in late April/early May, while the Fall planting is in November. The deadline for Spring planting has passed as that was the first Friday in March, but Fall planting’s deadline is the first Friday in September. Here is a link to the Rochester Hills order form.
There are a limited amount of trees in particular varieties and so you probably should not wait if you have a special type of tree you want to be planted. For a listing of tree varieties that are normally available please visit the Street Tree List.
The program is to enhance the livability of the community and did you know it also increases your home’s value? Here are some articles to take a look at that reference this point.
