Selling your home? It’s exciting—full of plans, promises, and fresh starts. But let’s be real: it also comes with its fair share of irritations. Allow me to shed some light on a few?
The 6:30 p.m. Showing Request
Just as your fork hits the plate, a showing request pops up for 30 minutes from now.
Annoying? Absolutely. Should you accommodate it? Yes.
Most buyers work during the day, so the prime window for showings is 5:30–8:00 p.m.—right at dinner. I get it. I’m missing dinner then, too. But those twilight hours show your home in its best light, especially in fall and winter. It’s worth the sandwich on-the-go.
The Late Agent
Few things test your patience (and mine) like what looks like a no-show. But often, buyers linger in homes they love, which throws schedules off, and the agent is just a little late. Allowing a few minutes of flexibility on the showing time can ease your stress.
And if you pull into the driveway and the buyers are still inside? Keep driving! Lengthy showings are a good sign. If they didn’t like your house, trust me—they wouldn’t be hanging around.
Why Agents Leave Your Lights On
The #1 complaint we hear? “The agent didn’t turn off the lights!”
Understandable. Sometimes it’s forgetfulness, but more often, it’s intentional. Lighting is everything. Buyers should walk into a warm, welcoming space—not a dim entry.
Plus, there’s safety to consider. I’ve tripped over more than one pile of Legos or a garden hose while fumbling for a light switch. And, if another showing is right behind us, leaving lights on is not only a courtesy but a safety move as well.
Selling a home takes patience, flexibility, and a little grace—for you, your buyers, and your agent. It’s a journey.
