Can you believe it is time for the Winter Carnival already! This season is flying by! It begins tomorrow, Saturday, January 26th and is held at a new location which is at the Bear Creek Nature Park, 740 W Snell Rd, Rochester, MI 48306. The weather will not be a factor as it is scheduled to occur no matter what Mother Nature provides for us. The fun begins at noon and lasts until 4 pm. That should tucker everyone out!!
The activities of the day include the following:
Outdoor activities including ice skating, ice carving demonstrations and photo op, kiddie sledding, archery, a scavenger hunt, and a variety of carnival “snow games” – penguin bowling, pin the nose on the snowman, hockey goal shoot, and a snowball fight.
Indoor activities including a pinecone bird feeder nature craft, two tent shows with Magic Joe and Michigan Stiltwalker’s Balloon Show and a food tent with warm beverages, pizza, and sandwiches. All activities are FREE including food and skate loan!!
All parking is at the Paint Creek Cider Mill. There will be a free shuttle service from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from the Paint Creek Cider Mill Building, 4480 Orion Road (.25 miles from the event) to Bear Creek Nature Park. Again, this event runs from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.
Things to note are there will be limited sleds for the kids and so arriving early may be a good idea and the age restriction for sledding is for ages 6 and up. There are also a limited number of ice skates available, as well. There will be tips offered from the national competitor, Julia Budnick.
This event is sponsored by the Oakland Township Parks & Recreation. For further information visit their website oaklandtownship.org or call 248-651-7810.
So here’s yet another event where our hearty Michiganders dress in layers and show up for a fun packed day outside!! Enjoy!!
